Extrovert science and research center which deals with the problems Venetian lagoon is facing
aequi.venice is a master thesis that explores design process, translation of research into concept and relationship between different levels of usage. Located on the deserted island of Poveglia in Venetian Lagoon, aequi.venice creates a narrative of an extrovert science and research centre which deals with problems the lagoon is facing. At the same time the project raises the awareness of climatic changes and translate them into architectural elements.
The complex consists of 8 buildings each designed to host a research centre that deals with one issue the lagoon is facing. The main campus building is located on the part of the island with existing buildings. Named after its main function Rainwater Collection Center is inspired by the image of the wells around the Venice, which are not only water collectors but the social attractor and a vital urban element as well. The idea was to activate the whole area to collect rainwater. Through the faceted structure - a roof landscape - that connects the existing buildings and generates the atmospheric space between them, we managed to turn the technical process of water collection in the architectural concept.
